The Challenge: Building National Demand for Quality Family Engagement

  • 50+ Media placements

  • $13.7M - record investment

  • 1,130 Funding requests

The W.K. Kellogg Foundation (WKKF) tasked Widmeyer Communications to help them engage more families in their children’s education. As part of this work, the foundation wanted to identify new family engagement strategies from around the country, and build a groundswell of support to make sure all parents and families know how to help make the smartest decisions about their children’s education. Our communications efforts resulted in WKKF receiving more than 1,130 grant applications for a $13.7 million family engagement investment, the most ever received for a single funding opportunity in the foundation’s 83-year history.

WKKF also turned to Widmeyer to work with the White House and the U.S. Departments of Education and Health and Human Services to orchestrate the first-ever White House Symposium on Transformative Family Engagement. Our work to promote the foundation’s family engagement efforts resulted in 53 stories in publications nationwide.
