Widmeyer Communications maintains a scholarship program at West Virginia University. The scholarship program, which was endowed in 1998 in the name of Scott D. Widmeyer, regularly endows two scholarships a year. The program benefits first generation college students and African American students attending the Perley Isaac Reed School of Journalism at WVU. To date, 17 students have been awarded scholarships.
At a ceremony held in 2005 in Morgantown, WV, then Governor Bob Wise honored Scott Widmeyer for his ongoing commitment to WVU by bestowing the Distinguished West Virginian Award on Widmeyer.
