Widmeyer Expands Health and Wellness Team

Widmeyer Communications announces the addition of four new members to its New York-based Health and Wellness Practice: medical advisor Doug Elwood, M.D., account manager Natalia Garzon, account executive Rob Ungar and account executive Kevin Donovan.

“The firm’s Health and Wellness practice has had extensive growth over the past year, which allows for a corresponding growth in talent.  We are fortunate to welcome highly qualified individuals at a variety of levels,” said Henry Engleka, Senior Vice President and head of the Health and Wellness practice.  “Their combined experience and diverse backgrounds will further enhance the level of service we consistently provide to our clients and allow us to move more aggressively into emerging health communications fields, such as corporate America’s approach to promoting the well-being of its employees.”

Doug Elwood, M.D, MBA, joins the Health and Wellness practice as medical advisor.  Dr. Elwood will provide counsel to clients such as the John Theurer Cancer Center at the Hackensack University Medical Center and West Virginia University United Health System.  Dr. Elwood received his joint MD/MBA degree from Jefferson Medical College, graduated from Amherst College and recently completed his medical residency at New York University.

Natalia Garzon joins the team as an account manager.  At Widmeyer, Natalia will work directly with both corporate and nonprofit clients, including Nestlé’s efforts to strengthen its corporate social responsibility program and the W.K. Kellogg Foundation’s campaign to increase awareness of the organization’s investments.  Previously she was a senior account executive at Ruder Finn where she designed, oversaw and implemented public relations and media relations campaigns on behalf of the New York Blood Center, Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, National Domestic Violence Hotline, the Century Council, Safe Horizon, the Whitaker Group, Tasigna (Novartis Oncology) and PriCara (Ortho-McNeil-Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc.), among many others.  Natalia graduated from Tufts University with a Bachelor of Arts in Economics.

Rob Ungar who began in Widmeyer’s Fellowship program will serve as an account executive specializing in social media and working with clients such as Pfizer, Nestlé, the W.K. Kellogg Foundation, the John Theurer Cancer Center at the Hackensack University Medical Center, Mountain State Blue Cross/Blue Shield and the West Virginia University Hospital’s Health Sciences Center. Ungar graduated from the University of Michigan with a BA in American Culture and a minor in U.S. History.

Kevin Donovan joins the team as an account executive after being a part of Widmeyer’s Fellowship program as well.  Donovan began his career in health care communications at Bristol-Myers Squibb in a post-graduate corporate communications internship.  He will work on a similar client portfolio to Unger’s.  Donovan graduated from Washington and Lee University, majoring in journalism and economics.
