On December 8, 2009, Douglas Kubach, President & CEO of Pearson Assessment & Information, provided testimony at a U.S. House of Representatives’ Committee on Education and Labor hearing about Improving Our Competitiveness: Common Core Education Standards. Widmeyer counseled Kubach before this testimony. In his remarks to the Committee, Kubach said, ”As an industry leader in the development, delivery and analysis of standardized academic testing, we fully support the Administration’s and Committee’s goals of improving student learning, increasing college readiness and, ultimately, raising America’s students competitive standing in today’s global economy.” He emphasized three factors for achieving success in meeting these goals: increased cooperation and collaboration among all stakeholders, preserving accountability while increasing transparency and leveraging the opportunities presented by “going online.”
