Students who show they are ready to do college level work will be able to get their diploma and enroll in college as early as the end of their sophomore year in high school. Widmeyer helped to garner national media attention for the announcement, including a homepage story in The New York Times, which was one of the most e-mailed pieces of the day from nytimes.com.

Widmeyer laid the groundwork for BIRI’s participation and successful media positioning in both events, during one of the most competitive weeks in U.S. sports news.

As a result of Widmeyer’s outreach to Congressional staff and media for the Congressional forum in Houston, Dr. Omalu was featured in two Associated Press stories, which were subsequently picked up by 16 news outlets including The New York Times. Widmeyer’s work with NFL Hall of Fame player and coach Mike Ditka to place an opinion editorial on the significance of football head injuries appeared on the morning of Super Bowl Sunday in the Miami Herald. The article, which also announced BIRI’s partnership with GGAF, is a great example of the BIRI news coverage around the Super Bowl.

We all want to leave a professional mark, to have made a positive difference in the lives of those with whom we work. Deborah Howell did just that and will be warmly remembered for far more than her personal skills as a gifted writer/editor. She guided all in her sphere and made them better at their craft, stronger as leaders, smarter editors, more effective reporters. As the New York Times noted, Deborah, “repeatedly ascended professional heights that had been the near-exclusive province of men, earning accolades for her toughness, curiosity and enthusiasm.” Without question she left a positive professional mark on me and others in the field of journalism.

The following organizations are partnering in the effort: Computer Science Teachers Association, the Computing Research Association, the National Center for Women & Information Technology, the Anita Borg Institute, the National Science Foundation, Google Inc., Intel, and Microsoft.

Some notable coverage:
