The economic crisis resulted in anxieties that many youth hadn’t experienced in more than a generation. The National Association of School Psychologists (NASP) needed to raise awareness of the importance of school psychologists to helping kids handle the stress of cash-strapped families at home and budget cuts at school. Widmeyer secured an interview with Parents magazine for one of NASP’s spokespeople, a practicing school psychologist in North Carolina. The story, titled “Recession Lessons,” successfully alerted parents to the ways school psychologists can help deal with student stress in tough economic times.
