The week leading up to Super Bowl Sunday was a critical period for Widmeyer client, the Brain Injury Research Institute (BIRI). Widmeyer laid the groundwork for BIRI’s participation and successful media positioning in both events, during one of the most competitive weeks in U.S. sports news.
As a result of Widmeyer’s outreach to Congressional staff and media for the Congressional forum in Houston, Dr. Omalu was featured in two Associated Press stories, which were subsequently picked up by 16 news outlets including The New York Times. Widmeyer’s work with NFL Hall of Fame player and coach Mike Ditka to place an opinion editorial on the significance of football head injuries appeared on the morning of Super Bowl Sunday in the Miami Herald. The article, which also announced BIRI’s partnership with GGAF, is a great example of the BIRI news coverage around the Super Bowl.
