I love characters. Since I was a little girl playing dress-up, I’ve had an intense curiosity about people – what makes us different, and what connects us all – and a desire to tell stories. As an actor, I spent years putting myself in other people’s shoes, observing the human experience, researching other places and times, diving into history, mythology and literature. You’d be surprised how much you can learn about yourself from studying others. I approach work and life with the same curiosity, eyes wide-open, asking questions and seeking truth. To me, storytelling is about finding creative ways to give people something to connect to, and reaching them on a universal level. The great actor Marlon Brando said, “If you want something from an audience, you give blood to their fantasies.” No matter who the audience, or what the story is, there’s always a place for a personal element. We’re only human, after all.
