Americans for Gun Safety (AGS)
Americans for Gun Safety is a bi-partisan organization that has worked tirelessly and methodically over the past several years to achieve common ground and plot a legislative strategy that would break through gridlock, get beyond ideology, and introduce measures that are acceptable to all sides while making our cities, suburbs, schools and neighborhoods safer places for everyone. AGS hired Widmeyer to publicize the AGS report, "Broken Records," which provided a state-by-state countdown of missing and inaccessible records from the background check system. We targeted key Congressional districts through a multi-phase integrated communications campaign that included reaching out to regional, state and local media. In addition, we approached more than two-dozen key editorial boards around the country in order to garner more positive editorial coverage.
Results:
The media relations campaign resulted in hundreds of print, television, wire and radio stories and has continued to have long-term impact on the Hill and as a result, AGS was instrumental in the passage of a landmark bipartisan gun bill. The media coverage also had a long-term impact on the Hill.
