Economy

From gas prices to tax policy and trade and investment to the unemployment rate and economic development, the economy is at the heart of the national conversation. Driving the debate are many disparate groups of associations, organizations and stakeholders all trying to shape this conversation.

Widmeyer Communications helps clients navigate the often-confusing Washington policy landscape to achieve their goals. Working in collaboration, we help our clients improve their positioning, raise their visibility and identify ways to engage in the national conversation as appropriate to their goals and objectives.

A Proven Team
Widmeyer’s public affairs professionals understand how evolving policies and the rapidly changing news cycle can have a significant impact upon reputation and curtail or improve an organization’s ability to do business now and in the future. We are former politicos – from Capitol Hill communications directors and press secretaries to trade and advocacy organization professionals and presidential appointees – and we have extensive experience making and adapting to change.

Client Portfolio
Our focus on the economy includes work for corporations, unions, manufacturers, associations, government agencies, non-governmental organizations and other advocates engaged in economic development, finance, trade, economic policy and related issues.

National Association for the Self-Employed (NASE)
Widmeyer is helping give the nation’s self-employed and micro-businesses a voice in the national conversation about jobs and the economic recovery. This public affairs campaign is focused on targeted geographies and national and local broadcast news outlets. In the summer of 2010, Widmeyer created a creative online campaign to challenge misperceptions about this segment of the economy and its contribution to the overall economic health of the nation. The “Not So Bunny” campaign generated more than 22 million impressions and a higher-than-average click-through rate. The campaign and related earned media coverage is helping to move the policy goals of the nation’s smallest businesses up the priority list of Congressional leaders.

United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America
Widmeyer has worked closely with various regional and local councils of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America to provide strategic counsel and guidance to the Union on political and other policy related matters. This work has included a comprehensive effort to rebrand and better position the union among its leadership and membership. We helped reorganize the internal communications structure of two councils with the goal of better communicating with their membership through targeted media outreach, member correspondence, and website and newsletter development.

Association of American Publishers
Widmeyer is helping the Higher Education division of the Association of American Publishers reshape the national conversation on the cost of course materials. This effort is aimed at educating elected officials and policymakers, as well as college and university administrators and faculty, about what publishers are doing to improve student retention and pass rates, lower the cost per pupil for instruction and reduce student costs for course materials.  In addition, we’re promoting the publishers’ efforts to provide specialized textbooks to help disabled students succeed in college.
