Health & Wellness

Accountable care, personalized medicine, an aging population, government reform, breakthrough new technology – health care has changed. But business must go on.

Our clients look to us to get maximum results in this new and complex environment – from navigating and communicating about reform and managing issues to launching new products and reinvigorating old ones and everything in between.

A Proven Team

Our team is passionate about health care and knowledgeable about the issues. Solving our clients’ problems requires innovative thinking. That’s what we practice every day as we help our clients position their organizations to take advantage of the predictable, and the unpredictable. We have helped clients reposition themselves to better take advantage of market condition, successfully defended them against issues, rebranded their organizations, launched company-wide social media plans and earned them national media attention.

Client Portfolio

Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease
Widmeyer is helping the Partnership to Fight Chronic Disease (PFCD) to redefine its purpose and mission in order to maintain its position as a leading voice in the health care policy reform debate and attract new members to the diverse coalition. Widmeyer overhauled PFCD’s recruitment materials, developed a comprehensive matrix of recruitment targets and is implementing a multi-tiered outreach effort to expand the organization’s membership and bottom line. We’re also helping PFCD better communicate the value of being involved in the coalition to current members. On a separate track, our creative team is developing a series of global fact sheets on chronic disease that PFCD will use to support its advocacy in key geographies.

Pfizer Inc.
Widmeyer and Pfizer collaborated to position the organization as a science‐based company to a community of employees, thought leaders and the public. We helped manage multiple partnerships with leaders in the scientific media, including PBS’s Nova scienceNOW and BigThink, and helped secure multiple opportunities for key Pfizer scientists to gain more visibility in the scientific community and in the media. Most recently, we launched Think Science Now, a program that allows Pfizer’s science and medical professionals to share information about their work through blogs and other social media channels. Think Science Now has grown from 19 scientists to more than 170 and attracts an audience of more than 100,000.

West Virginia University Hospitals-Department of Neurosurgery
Widmeyer works with WVU to raise awareness of the Department of Neurosurgery and positively position its services, surgeons and research in the media and with its key constituencies. We have gained national exposure for Dr. Julian Bailes’ expertise on steroids, appearing on the CBS Early Show, Comcast SportsNet and ABC Radio Network. Through Widmeyer’s outreach efforts, WVU’s research on the importance of using CT-perfusion scans to guide stroke treatment garnered national media attention with articles on several websites, including ABC News, Forbes, United Press International, Medical News Today, Innovations Report, and The Washington Times. In 2010, Widmeyer secured a four-piece series on ABC’s Nightline with WVU Hospitals and its neurosurgery work as the lead story.

The John Theurer Cancer Center at Hackensack University Medical Center
Widmeyer helped develop the John Theurer Cancer Center’s (JTCC) online and offline communications strategies and market research, supporting the organization’s objective to elevate its brand nationally amongst the elite cancer care centers as well as locally as an alternative to community hospitals, and to drive physician referrals. Our work included a complete audit and overhaul of the organization’s communications efforts, the development of a national advertising campaign titled “Cancer is Hard Enough;” third party relationship building and direct-to-physician marketing. These efforts improved the organizations’ U.S. News & World Report rankings within one year.

U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC)
CPSC was mandated by Congress to implement a national public education campaign to fulfill the requirements of section 1407 of the Virginia Graeme Baker Pool and Spa Safety Act. The agency was tasked with developing a first-ever campaign to reduce drownings and entrapments in and around pools and spas by raising public awareness and industry compliance of the law. In response, Widmeyer built a focused public education campaign and message.
