Joe Carey
Joe Carey serves as a Senior Counsel to Widmeyer Communications and brings extensive experience in crisis communications, corporate reputation management and national positioning issues. He has worked with the CEOs and leadership teams of large healthcare systems and institutions of higher education, as well as privately held corporations.
During his tenure as director of strategic communications for Governor Bob Wise of West Virginia, Carey gained wide praise from the media and public alike when he successfully managed the media needs of over 500 national and international journalists covering the rescue and West Virginia homecoming of PFC Jessica Lynch.
Prior to joining the Wise administration, Carey was a marketing executive for the Walt Disney Company, where he managed several national and international marketing campaigns for one of the world’s most respected and recognizable brands. Carey was appointed by President Clinton to serve in the office of United States Secretary of Transportation, Rodney Slater, and began his career working for West Virginia Governor Gaston Caperton, where he gained a wealth of experience and knowledge in communications and media relations. Carey is a graduate of West Liberty State College where he serves as a director on the West Liberty State College Foundation Board.
