Increasing Diversity in Journalism

Since 1998, the endowed Scott D. Widmeyer African-American and First Generation Scholarships have supported two students a year. The scholarship program benefits African-American and first generation West Virginian college students who are seeking degrees in journalism. The scholarships focus on students in WVU’s Reed College of Media. To date, 40 students have been awarded scholarships. Scott Widmeyer is a recipient of the Distinguished West Virginian Award for his ongoing commitment to WVU.
